CANADIAN FOOD SAFETY TRAINING

ARE YOU AN APPROVED FOOD HANDLER CERTIFICATION CENTRE?

Yes, Canadian Food Safety Training is a recognized centre by the Ministry of Health and Longterm Care and we are members of the Canadian Association of Food Service Professionals.  We issue Food Handler Certificates accepted by all Boards of Health in Ontario. 

WHY IS FOOD SAFETY TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION IMPORTANT?

Research has shown that certified food handlers who are properly trained in food safety are better equipped to comply with safe food handling and sanitation practices. This translates into reduced risk of food borne illness in the community. It is very important to stay up to date on information regarding Food Allergies (http://foodallergycanada.ca/) and Food Recalls and Safety Alerts. When you attend a class at Canadian Food Safety Training to obtain your food handler certificate, we promise to keep you up to date on best practices. 

WHO WOULD BENEFIT FROM OUR CERTIFIED FOOD HANDLER TRAINING COURSE?

You need to become a certified food handler if you are currently working or planning to work as a cook, assistant cook, chef, server, caterer, baker, delivery person, dishwasher, restaurant owner or manager, hot dog or street vendor, receiver of foods, supervisor, stock person, nurse, nurses aid, personal support worker, nanny, early childcare worker, care giver. HOW CAN I GET A FOOD HANDLER CERTIFICATE IN TORONTO?

Canadian Food Safety Training offers food handler training to obtain your food handler certificate. Once a person successfully passes our exam, they will receive a food handler certification valid for 5 years. 

Food handler certificates are issued on the same day to everyone who achieves a passing grade of 70%.

OUR FOOD HANDLER TRAINING NO-FAIL POLICY

While most people pass our exam on their first try, if you attend a class at Canadian Food Safety Training and do not pass your food handler exam are welcome to return and either re-attend any of our regular scheduled training classes and/or self-study and rewrite the exam at no extra cost to you!  

We want everyone to be a safe food handler and obtain their food handler certificate. 

CAN I ACCESS YOUR TRAINING AND TESTS IF I HAVE AN AODA NEED?

We are committed to doing our best to help our clients with AODA (http://www.ohrc.on.ca/en/learning/working-together-code-and-aoda) needs. If you have learning disabilities, are unable to read, have language barriers, or have hearing impairments contacts us (https://canadianfoodsafetytraining.comcontact/) to make arrangements for specialized training that will help you achieve your goals of becoming a certified food handler. 

We offer AODA assistance; oral exams, translators, or other support upon request. Training is suitable for people with visual impairments. All videos are described.  

DO YOU OFFER THE TRAINING OR TEST IN A DIFFERENT LANGUAGE THAN ENGLISH?

All our training is offered in English, but you can take the test in the language of your choosing from the following: English, Spanish, Farsi, French, Korean, Chinese, Greek, and Polish. 

FOOD HANDLING CERTIFICATE

WHO NEEDS TO BECOME A CERTIFIED FOOD HANDLER?

A food handler is anyone who is employed where food is prepared, processed, served, packaged or stored, he/she needs to understand and follow the Health Protection and Promotion Act (HPPA) (https://www.ontario.ca/laws/statute/90h07) and understand how serious, even life threatening food allergens (https://foodallergycanada.ca/food-allergy-basics/food-allergies-101/what-are-food-allergies/priority-food-allergens/) can be. Certificate food handlers are required by law at all food premises to ensure the safe handling and preparation of foods by; employees at restaurants, fast food take-out, cafeterias, nursing homes, convenience or variety stores, hot dog vendors and childcare facilities that prepare food or serve food to the public. 

WHAT IS THE COST OF A FOOD HANDLER TRAINING COURSE IN TORONTO?

The cost of the Canadian Food Safety Training, food handler certificate is $90.00 ($79.65 + $10.35 HST) This includes training, food safety handbook, exam and a certificate on the same day – with a NO FAIL POLICY. 

We offer student discount with a valid ID: $59,65 + HST ($70) 

If you need to renew your permit or just take the exam without training the price is $57,52 + HST ($65) 

Upon successful completion of exam: you will receive your food handler’s certification which is valid for 5 years anywhere in Ontario.

HOW DIFFICULT IS THE FOOD HANDLER CERTIFICATE EXAM?

Canadian Food Safety Training conducts a practice test and full review during our food handler training session in order to help food handlers successfully achieve a passing grade. The exam consists of 50 multiple choice questions; passing grade is 70% or 35 out of 50.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY FOOD HANDLER CERTIFICATE?

At Canadian Food Safety Training your Food Handler Certificate will be provided to you as soon as you pass the exam. Certificate is issued on the same day once successfully achieving a passing grade of 70% 

HOW MUCH TIME WILL I NEED TO COMPLETE THE TRAINING AND GET MY CERTIFICATE?

You will need around 5 to 6 hours to complete your Food Handler Certificate training and exam. This certificate is valid for 5 years in Ontario. Learn more about the Certificate here. (https://canadianfoodsafetytraining.comabout/)  

HOW LONG DOES THE TEST TAKE?

If you are renewing your Food Handling Certificate or just want to take the exam with no training, this will take you around 1 hour. You can book your exam here (LINK) 

HOW DO I BOOK AND COMPLETE A TRAINING?

  1. Book your Food Handler Certificate at https://canadianfoodsafetytraining.comfood-handler-certificate-training/ 
  2. If its Online Training, you can pay using PayPal. At our Danforth location you can pay using credit, debit or cash.
  3. You will receive a confirmation email with all the information for your training. 

Online training  

  1. On the day of your training you will get a Zoom link to access the training.  
  2. Have at hand a Government issued ID (Passport/health card/driver’s license) 
  3. Once you complete the training, you will be given access to the test.
  4. Receive your certificate on the same day, after successfully achieving a passing grade of 70%  

On-site training 

  1. Arrive at our centre (https://canadianfoodsafetytraining.comcontact/) a few minutes before your training begins. 
  2. Present your Government issued ID (Passport/health card/driver’s license) 
  3. Complete our training and take the exam
  4. Receive your certificate on the same day ,after successfully achieving a passing grade of 70% 

WHAT CAN I DO IF I LOSE MY CERTIFICATE?

For a small administration fee of $6, we will mail you new one.

WILL I GET A PRINTED CERTIFICATE?

Yes, an Ontario Food Handler Plastic ID card will be mailed to the address you provide us.
