Yes, Canadian Food Safety Training is a recognized centre by the Ministry of Health and we are members of the Canadian Association of Food Service Professionals. We issue Food Handler Certificates accepted by all Boards of Health in Ontario.
Research has shown that certified food handlers who are properly trained in food safety are better equipped to comply with safe food handling and sanitation practices. This translates into reduced risk of food borne illness in the community. When you attend a class at Canadian Food Safety Training to obtain your food handler certificate, we promise to keep you up to date on best practices.
You need to become a certified food handler if you are currently working or planning to work as a cook, assistant cook, chef, server, caterer, baker, delivery person, dishwasher, restaurant owner or manager, hot dog or street vendor, receiver of foods, supervisor, stock person, nurse, nurses aid, personal support worker, nanny, early childcare worker, care giver. Canadian Food Safety Training offers food handler training to obtain your food handler certificate in a few hours. Once a person successfully passes our exam, they will receive a food handler certification valid for 5 years.
Food handler certificates are issued on the same day to everyone who achieves a passing grade of 70%.

While most people pass our exam on their first try, if you attend a class (9:30am-3pm) at Canadian Food Safety Training and do not pass your food handler exam, you are welcome to return and either re-attend any of our regular scheduled training classes and/or self-study and rewrite the exam within 30 days at no extra cost to you!
We may also assist participants in determining an inclusive solution for language barriers or special needs requests.
Please note that this offer does not apply to Renewal Exam participants, only those who take training with us. Those who opt for a Renewal Exam session with us and are unsuccessful will be asked to pay a $35+HST fee to attend training within 30 days of their original exam date.

A food handler is anyone who is employed where food is prepared, processed, served, packaged or stored, he/she needs to understand and follow the Health Protection and Promotion Act (HPPA) (https://www.ontario.ca/laws/statute/90h07) and understand how serious, even life threatening food allergens (https://foodallergycanada.ca/food-allergy-basics/food-allergies-101/what-are-food-allergies/priority-food-allergens/) can be. Certificate food handlers are required by law at all food premises to ensure the safe handling and preparation of foods by; employees at restaurants, fast food take-out, cafeterias, nursing homes, convenience or variety stores, hot dog vendors and childcare facilities that prepare food or serve food to the public.
The cost of the Canadian Food Safety Training, food handler certificate is $90.00 +HST. This includes training, food safety handbook, exam and a certificate on the same day – with a NO FAIL POLICY – if you do not pass we train you again for FREE within 30 days of your original class date.

Canadian Food Safety Training conducts a practice test and full review during our food handler training session in order to help food handlers successfully achieve a passing grade. The exam consists of 50 multiple choice questions; passing grade is 70% or 35 out of 50.

At Canadian Food Safety Training your Food Handler Certificate will be provided to you as soon as you pass the exam. Certificate is issued on the same day once successfully achieving a passing grade of 70%
You will need around 5 to 6 hours to complete your Food Handler Certificate training and exam.
Food Handler Training is about 2.5-3 hours. We have a 30 minute lunch break. The exam takes about 1 hour and we allow extra time for those who need it.
This certificate is valid for 5 years in Ontario.
If you are renewing your Food Handling Certificate or want to self study and take the exam with no training, this will take you around 1 hour. We have extra time for those who need help. Our NO FAIL policy only applies to those who attend our training and fail the exam. We will train you again for FREE if you need to re-attend.
