Re-certification Exam

Food Handlers needing to renew their certification credential must successfully complete a proctored "Re-certification Exam".

Our Food Handler Certificate is recognized by the Ministry of Health & Long Term Care; which is issued on the same day and remains valid for 5 years. Contact us to schedule a re-certification exam.

Our Food Handler Certification training program discusses improper food handling practices which cause over 95% of all food poisonings, and how to reduce the risk of food poisoning through proper food handling.
 
Topics covered include:
Ontario Food Premises Regulations, Contaminates and Foodborne Illness, Biological Contamination and Foodborne Illness, Growth of Micro-organisms, Safe Food Handling, Personal Hygiene, Time and Temperature Controls, Proper Use of a Thermometer, Allergies and Allergens, Proper Food Storage, Cooking and Cooling Foods, Houseeeping and Sanitation, Introduction to HACCP, How Microbes Cause Food Poisoning, Proper Receiving and Storing of Foods, (including food-handling steps such as cooking, cooling, reheating, cold and hot-holding and thawing).
 
Our training is presented with a combination of instruction and discussion accompanied by slides and videos. Following the course is a proctored exam; 70% is needed to pass.

Canadian Food Safety Training offers Food Handler Certification Courses to provide food handlers with the knowledge of safe food handling practices to prevent food-borne illness.

Our food handler certification program is a one day, approx. 5 hour program with a multiple choice exam at the end of the day.A passing grade of 70% is required.Upon achieving a passing grade, we will issue you a certificate the same day.

Research has shown that food handlers who are trained in food safety are better equipped to comply with safe food handling and sanitation practices. This translates into reduced risk of foodborne illness in the community.

 

Anyone who is employed where food is prepared, processed, served, packaged or stored. This includes restaurants, fast food take-out, cafeterias, nursing homes, hot dog vendors and childcare facilities that prepare food or serve food.

 

If you are currently working or planning to work as a cook, assistant cook, chef, server, caterer, baker, delivery person, dishwasher, restaurant owner or manager, hot dog or street vendor, receiver of foods, supervisor, stock person, nurse, nurses aid, personal support worker, nanny, early childcare worker, care giver.

 

The cost of the Food Handler Certification Training is $90.00 ($79.65 + $10.35 HST) This includes training, food safety handbook, exam and certificate. (please see Why Choose Us for more info).
Upon successful completion of exam: you will receive your food handler’s certification which valid for 5 years.
We also provide in-house training in restaurants, hotels, grocery stores, nursing homes and day care facilities.

 

Attend our Food Handler Certification course: after successfully passing our exam; you will receive your Food Handler Certification valid for 5 years. Certificate is issued on the same day once successfully achieving a passing grade of 70%

We conduct a practice test and full review during our training session in order to help you successfully achieve a passing grade. The exam consists of 50 multiple choice questions; passing grade is 70% or 35 out of 50.

While most people pass our exam on thier first try, however if you do not, then you are welcome to return anytime to either attend any of our regular scheduled training classes and/or rewrite the exam at no extra cost to you!
